Shamshir, Persian Sabre
The Shamshir, which is translated to Lions Paw , is a Persian saber. It is a cutting weapon and designed for cutting. Due to its strongly curved blade makes it sturdy and its cuts more effective, but thrusting is nearly impossible. It was produced in many different countries like India, the Balkans, Russia and Turkey. In addition to its function as a weapon the shamshir often was a ceremonial sword.
This Shamshir features a sharpened blade made of high carbon steel. The curved, spherical pommel together with the grip is made of two pieces of wood and is attached to the tang. The Scabbard is made of leather-wrapped wood and provides a steel chape, mouth and carrying rings.
