In ancient times, tunics were mostly meant to be worn directly against the skin as undergarment. In the course of the Middle Ages, they were gradually converted to outerwear. Although very few original fragments could be preserved until today, numerous period illustrations, such as miniatures, attest to the existence and relevance of the tunic and were drawn upon to design the most accurate possible reproductions.
Our medieval tunics are thus three-quarter sleeved and loose-fitting, as the waist line was usually accentuated with a belt in the Middle Ages.
The tunics are suitable for both high and late medieval re-enactment.
