A Beer of the Gods
The Einherjer are the fallen warriors collected by the Valkyries from the battlefield and taken to Valhalla, where they carouse, play and fight in Odin's magnificent hall until the Allfather leads them into the great, final battle of Ragnarök. The world then plunges into chaos, the Fimbulwinter freezes everything, the fire giant Surtr engulfs the world in fire, the Midgard serpent floods the lands and Sköll devours the sun. The world then sinks into infinite darkness.
But the gods and the light return and a new, better world will emerge.
We have brewed this special beer as a symbolic pay (German: Sold) for the brave Einherjer who fight alongside the gods.
Barley Wine has always been a very strong and warming beer. It has its roots in 18th century England, where the wine-drinking upper class was forced to find an alternative to French wine due to the repeated wars opposing England and France at the time.
Of course, a vintage beer can also be enjoyed young, i.e. shortly after bottling, but it usually only reaches its peak after a longer storage period. Correct storage will make for a mellower, rounder and more complex beer. Sherry, port or cognac flavours develop, foam and carbon dioxide decrease, the beer actually becomes more like a good wine.
Due to their long shelf life and huge taste maturation potential, vintage beers are often regarded as collectibles and traded high, just like wines.
This beer will most probably outlive the Ragnarök, so that the remaining Einherjer may relish it and regain their strength. The warmth of this barley wine will help overcome the Fimbulwinter and make up for enduring all hardships and strains, not only after surviving the apocalypse. And this exclusive beer is also highly recommended as a gift for friends and relatives who deserve a special reward.
