Prussian Pickelhaube, 1867 Cuirassier Spiked Helmet, brass

This helmet is an excellent replica of an 1867 officer's helmet of the 7th (Magdeburg) Cuirassier Regiment von Seydlitz.

The original helmet was worn by Chancellor Prince Otto von Bismarck, who was named honorary General of this cavalry regiment by the Prussian king on October 18, 1868. It was donated by Bismarck's daughter-in-law to the Zeughaus (old arsenal) in Berlin (today's German Historical Museum) in 1909.

The ornamental front plate shows the heraldic Prussian eagle with the scroll inscription Mit Gott für König und Vaterland (With God for King and Fatherland) and the letters FR on its chest. The spike's neck has two ventilation holes, and the base is attached to the helmet with round-head rivets. Most Pickelhaubes featured a detachable spike which could be replaced by a plume on official occasions, for example military parades.

Our replica is equipped with a comfortable leather lining for height adjustment.
